US threatens to cut Egypt aid over Israel

US Congresswoman Kay Granger has threatened that if Egypt withdraws from its peace treaty with Israel, Washington would cut its USD 2-billion annual aid to Cairo.
“The United States aid to Egypt is predicated on the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, and so the relationship between Egypt and Israel is extremely important,” Granger said in an interview withJerusalem Post on Monday.
The remark came as tension between Cairo and Tel Aviv increased after Israeli forces killed five Egyptian border guards on Thursday at Egypt's border with the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Minister for military Affairs Ehud Barak on Saturday said “Israel deeply regrets the deaths of the Egyptian officers” after Egypt announced it would withdraw its ambassador the Tel Aviv if no official apology was made.
Egypt was the first Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel in 1979, but the situation has changed drastically since the overthrow of Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak in February; and a number of Egyptian political parties have been calling for changes in the peace treaty.
The United States' annual aid has been provided to Egypt since the Cairo-Tel Aviv peace treaty was signed.
Granger also warned that the US would cut the USD 500-million aid it provides to the Palestinian Authority if it would seek to win a UN recognition for a statehood at the UN General Assembly meeting in September.
Granger is the chairwoman of the US House appropriations foreign operations subcommittee, which is the institution in charge if setting the US foreign aid bill.

First of all Israel did not respect the peace treaty by killing the Egyptian military personnel and guards. The american aid is only a bribe to get Egypt to collaborate with the blood-lust repression and enslavement of the Palestinian people. US can keep their blood money.

But Israel broke the treaty by killing police and military personel. (meaning, USA, you should be cutting the aid given to Isreal instead).

It was this kind of contraption that has created the Mobarrak (and alike) in the whole region. These kind of "aid" goes to directly to "personal accounts" of few corrupt leaders, not to Egyptian people. Egyptian people should celebrate this news, it's the best that can happen to them. I thought they had a revolution to make these kind illegal meddling in their country, as this "smart" Congresswoman is suggesting.

Egypt should do same as Lebanon did. In late 2010, after Israel shot Lebanese soldiers & they exchanged fire along the border, USA threatened Lebanon & froze delivery of antiquated military guns & bullets to Lebanon. Soon afterwards, USA lifted the freeze because Lebanon snubbed USA & turned to Iran & Russia to arm Lebanese military with real equipment. USA was worried that it was losing its grip on Lebanon, especially after Lebanon gave the royal treatment to Iranian President AhmadiNejad.

The countries which have been getting US or UK aids couldn't be abled to stand firmly on their own feet - some of those states are always at the risk of being economically collapsed.US or UK actually don't give aid they bribe the leaders[[]political or military] to see their interests.Where and how those militery or economical aids get utilised general public can't know that.If Iranian were taking aids from US then there wouldn't be an strong and self-sufficient Iran today.

Whenever USA wants to get rid of its old war equipments, it dumps them on Arab countries regardless whether they want them or not, & calls it "aid". Similarly, for dictators to stay in power, USA forces Saudi Arabia, Egypt & other puppets to buy military machines from US corporations & USA calls that "aid". Egypt should cut ties with USA & Israel & shut down their embassies. USA has hijacked Arab uprisings, including those that began with peaceful protests. USA used Arab uprisings as excuse to overthrow governments of Libya, Syria & more to follow. Puppet presidents of Tunisia, Egypt & Yemen may be gone but same old regimes that served USA-Israel are still intact & unchanged.
