Wednesday, 28 September 2011 ARGUMENT 1. The Palestinian people have an internationally recognized right to self-determination and sovereignty. A. The international community first confirmed the right of the Palestinian people to self- determination and sovereignty almost nine decades ago under the Covenant of the League of Nations. As early as 1922, the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and sovereignty was confirmed by the League of Nations with respect to the entire land area encompassing present day Israel and the 1967 occupied Palestinian territory (“oPt”). According to the League of Nations, historic Palestine, along with certain other communities comprising the Turkish Empire, was deemed developed enough to warrant provisional recognition as an independent nation.
